Here are a few simple steps that can help you fix the full computer name change issue in Windows Vista.

Note. Make sure the computer name on your network is creative, no more than 15 consecutive characters, and avoid using these characters in your computing device name: ` ~ # @ $ percentage point ^ & ( ) equals + [ ] | – -: , , ‘ . /?
5) The system will prompt you to restart your computer. Click OK and restart your computer for all changes to take effect.
6) After restarting the computer, you can go back to the system properties to make sure the new computer name and workgroup are set correctly.
